Why AI agents need a verified human behind them, what Concordium shipped since March, and what’s coming next: a MiCA-licensed euro, 75 million CCD for builders, and Locks on mainnet in January.
For years, Concordium was the odd one out in crypto: the chain that insisted every account have a verified person behind it, while most of the industry said identity was friction. At Town Hall #6 on 28 October, CEO Boris Bohrer-Bilowitzki explained why that choice now sits at the centre of the agentic economy. A new kind of economic actor has arrived, the AI agent, and it needs exactly what Concordium built.
McKinsey estimates that agentic commerce could orchestrate $3 trillion to $5 trillion of global commerce by 2030. In August alone, the toolkits developers use to build agents, from Anthropic, Google and OpenAI, were downloaded 139 million times. Over the 2025 holiday season, AI and agents influenced $262 billion of shopping.
These are new economic actors. They search, compare, buy and pay. And not one of them can prove who stands behind it.
Payments Are Solved. Identity Is Not.
Coinbase, Google, OpenAI with Stripe, Mastercard and Visa have all launched ways for agents to pay. Ask any of them who is behind the agent, and there is no answer. Regulators, banks and merchants now ask the same three questions: who authorised this agent, can its payment be audited, and is there an accountable human or business behind it?
Concordium answers at the protocol level. Every account on the chain has a verified human or business behind it, checked by an Identity Provider, and the identity behind it can be revealed only under due legal process. That was true long before anyone had heard the word agentic.
Verified humans first. Verified payments in 2025. Verified agents in 2026. Trusted agentic commerce in 2027. Concordium remains the only blockchain where verified humans and verified AI agents operate on the same identity layer.
Becoming the Default Verification Layer
Concordium does not need to win the chain wars. It wants to verify the AI agents on all of them.
- XDC AI made Concordium its exclusive identity verification layer on 15 October.
- The Verified by Concordium badge shows on 8004scan across more than 200 chains.
- AITECH's Agent Forge puts a verified human behind every agent it hosts.
- Concordium joined the x402 Foundation on 23 September and the Mastercard Crypto Partner Program on 6 October.
Many of the top chains are now in advanced conversations to follow the XDC model. They’ll be named when they sign.
XDC AI is also the business model. The owner of an agent verifies once with a Zero-Knowledge Proof, so no documents touch the chain, and the agent carries the badge. Each verification opens a Concordium account, and Concordium earns a share of it. Partners no longer just integrate with Concordium. They pay to use its trust.
The numbers since the July update point the same way. Agent-related transactions are up 47 times, to more than 738,000. Registered agents are up four and a half times, to 5,040. The CCD moving between agents has more than tripled, and six platforms now read the registry, up from two. Every one of those agents sits in a public registry with a verified owner account.
Outside the chain, the world noticed: Concordium appeared in 149 media stories this year, nearly 15,000 posts about agent identity on X named it, and its token data is on the Bloomberg terminal through the Blockworks transparency filing.
Shipped Since the Last Town Hall
- The Agent Registry and badge launched on 28 May.
- Bitcoin.com Wallet brought CCD and Concordium verification to more than 80 million wallets. Ledger Wallet added CCD.
- Global FinReg turns a company's Legal Entity Identifier into an on-chain identity, so businesses can stand behind agents too.
- CertiK published its full-chain review.
- Concordium's x402 integration sits in the official x402 repository, and Concordium is a member of the x402 Foundation.
As seen in the live demo with a research agent that buys a data feed: listed on XDC AI, its owner verified once, the badge on 8004scan, and a payment over x402 landing on CCDScan. A sponsor covered the network fee through sponsored transactions, so the agent never held CCD, but the fee still settled in CCD, the native token of Concordium. Identity, payment and CCD. In about a minute.
What Comes Next
The Concordium Trusted Agents Hackathon opens on 2 November, with teams building on testnet from 19 November and submissions closing on 9 December. The Agent Kit, one toolkit for any network, reaches beta in mid-November.
Locks: from verified agents to agents that transact. Protocol-Level Locks let the protocol hold funds and release them only when the job is done, so a bug can’t drain them. After security review with CertiK, Locks go to public testnet in mid-December and mainnet in January, the step that makes agent-to-agent commerce real in 2027.
EURQ, a MiCA-licensed euro, is coming to Concordium. Stablecoins have been the community's most-asked question, and the answer is regulated money first. EURQ is issued by Quantoz Payments, an e-money institution supervised by the Dutch central bank. It is on Concordium testnet now, targeting mainnet in December, and gives verified agents a regulated euro they can hold, lock and pay with.
It is the first of more.
75 million CCD for builders. In March the community asked Concordium to back builders. The answer is 75 million CCD in grants for teams who make AI agents accountable. It is invite-led, so the money follows real usage rather than pitch decks. For the hackathon teams, come and play, and the scouts from Concordium will also be present, looking for talent that could qualify for a grant. Full details follow in a separate post shortly.
Verified Humans. Verified Agents. One Protocol.
